The main switch is the base of every circuit. Its function is to disconnect the device and all electrical connections from the network during cleaning, maintenance and repair, as well as during extended machine downtime. It must comply with IEC / EN 60947-3 for user category AC23.

The position of the main switch has to be clearly visible, either by clearly separating of the contacts (open position) or by clearly displaying the position. The main switch must also be able to be locked in the "Off" position to allow safe operation of the service procedure. The switch may also be in the function of an emergency switch, but at that time it must be appropriately marked - a red handle on a yellow base.

Main (service) or emergency disconnect switches are available in versions with different mounting options that allow a wide range of applications in the rated current range from 10A to 125A. The switches can be three and four pole or, if special order, also multi-pole and, if necessary, equipped with auxiliary contacts.
