{"id":8007,"date":"2023-07-20T14:40:57","date_gmt":"2023-07-20T14:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metronik.hr\/?p=8007"},"modified":"2023-07-20T14:40:57","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T14:40:57","slug":"how-to-ensure-a-reliable-source-of-energy-and-environmental-data-forsustainability-and-reporting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metronik.hr\/en\/splosno\/how-to-ensure-a-reliable-source-of-energy-and-environmental-data-forsustainability-and-reporting\/","title":{"rendered":"How to ensure a reliable source of energy and environmental data forsustainability and reporting?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sustainability has been an important topic for several years, although it has been somewhat<br \/>overshadowed in recent years by the coronavirus, the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine.<br \/>Nevertheless, it has now regained prominence with the introduction of the new European Corporate<br \/>Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which came into effect at the end of last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metronik.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Metronik-news-ensure-a-reliable-source-of-energy-and-environmental-data-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8008\" width=\"840\" height=\"576\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The European Green Deal<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sustainability reporting supports the European Green Deal, a package of policy measures aimed at<br \/>transforming the EU into a modern, efficient and competitive economy with net zero greenhouse gas<br \/>emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) was already adopted in 2014, under which<br \/>approximately 11,600 companies in the EU started sustainability reporting in 2018 for the previous<br \/>financial year. However, despite the defined guidelines, the reporting and quality of the information<br \/>disclosed by companies under the NFRD have not significantly improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To address this, the CSRD Directive was introduced to help achieve the goals of the European Green<br \/>Deal more successfully by providing more concrete information about risks and opportunities<br \/>regarding sustainability in companies and their impacts on people and the environment as a principle<br \/>of double importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commitment to sustainable reporting<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CSRD Directive expands the scope of the requirements for sustainability reporting to additional<br \/>obligees:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Large companies that meet two out of the following three criteria: 1) have an average<br \/>number of employees exceeding 250 in the financial year and\/or 2) have a net revenue of<br \/>more than EUR 40 million and\/or 3) have more than EUR 20 million in capital.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All companies in the EU listed on the stock exchange, including small and medium-sized<br \/>companies, except micro-enterprises.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All companies based in third countries that 1) generate more than EUR 150 million in net<br \/>revenue in the EU and 2) have at least one subsidiary or branch in the EU.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, companies are now also responsible for monitoring the sustainability information of their<br \/>subsidiaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the directive formally obligates only about 50,000 companies in the EU, its provisions will<br \/>affect most of the European economy. This is because additional disclosures by obligees will have to<br \/>include information on the most significant actual and potential adverse impacts and the measures<br \/>that mitigate or eliminate them throughout their entire value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice, this means that all companies that engage with them as business partners, suppliers or<br \/>contractors will have to adapt to sustainable business practices and reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, some companies choose to report voluntarily, as sustainability information is essential<br \/>for improving business operations and competitiveness, as well as for various external stakeholders,<br \/>such as owners and banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metronik.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Metronik-news-ensure-a-reliable-source-of-energy-and-environmental-data-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8009\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ESG sustainability reporting<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CSRD requires companies to qualitatively and quantitatively report on a wide range of<br \/>environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the environment, companies will have to disclose information according to the new<br \/>standards, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All major environmental issues, including dependencies and impacts related to climate, air,<br \/>land, water and biodiversity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The level, scope and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon offsetting<br \/>measures and the source of the envisaged measures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Energy consumption and energy efficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Technology also has an important role to play in this process, enabling companies to process and<br \/>prepare relevant data in a rational way, which is only possible with adequate information support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metronik.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Metronik-novice-Kako-zagotoviti-zanesljiv-vir-energetskih-in-okoljskih-podatkov-za-trajnostno-poslovanje-in-porocanje-slika-03.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8010\" width=\"840\" height=\"469\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can Metronik help you?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The basis for sustainability reporting is the automatic collection, storage and analysis of data and the<br \/>preparation of corresponding reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Metronik, we have developed cutting-edge energy information system MePIS Energy, which<br \/>serves exactly that purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It consists of several modules for monitoring and managing energy consumption, energy accounting<br \/>and advanced analytics with artificial intelligence, which can calculate consumption forecasts based<br \/>on various production and other factors such as tariff classes.
